Squeaky Wheels the Rationale

Team Squeaky Wheels came together by accident following a drunken conversation about the possibility of riding from Lands End to John O'Groats. The result was the accumulation of a quarter of a millenniums worth of accumulated wit and (arguably) wisdom in the guise of Jeff, Tim, Don and Michael. To give us all an incentive to accomplish this route we decided to make the journey a sponsored ride for McMillan Cancer Support, and run this Blog for our friends and supporters. Hopefully we will provide daily reports of our progress and events during the ride. These may become more terse as exhaustion and saddle sores kick in. So watch this space.

Day 5: Exeter to Shifnall

A lovely flat, at least at the start, ride through the Golden Valley of the Severn. Leominster, Ludlow through Iron Bridge to Shifnall. The weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot.A slight error in navigation caused a nasty uphill ride near Ludlow, but the view below was worth it. Mike caught trying to work out where we were. Navigational disaster averted, we made good time through the countryside, with interesting signs, beside which Tim poses proudly. An amazingly steep descent into Ironbridge, pictured, and an equally hard climb out, before ending the 62 miles at Shifnall.

  2. Great photo of Griggs beside the somewhat smutty sign - and a good one of Mick. Good to hear you've had a good day - and lovely to talk to Griggsy tonight. Message from Caro who's "following the progress of the 'Lycraclads' with rapt attention (and feel really glad it's not me!". Not to be outdone by the pedalling poets, she's penned the following limerick and asked me to pass it on:

Four elderly blokes on their bikes
    Thought pedalling better than hikes
    They all said 'Dammit!
    Feels we're cycling the planet-
But the beer is what everyone likes!'

Have a great day tomorrow! Ride on! Lots Jen xox

  3. Thasnks, Caro (and Jen for transmitting this piece of lyricism). It's tough being the only four poets among a group of bike fanatics!
