Squeaky Wheels the Rationale

Team Squeaky Wheels came together by accident following a drunken conversation about the possibility of riding from Lands End to John O'Groats. The result was the accumulation of a quarter of a millenniums worth of accumulated wit and (arguably) wisdom in the guise of Jeff, Tim, Don and Michael. To give us all an incentive to accomplish this route we decided to make the journey a sponsored ride for McMillan Cancer Support, and run this Blog for our friends and supporters. Hopefully we will provide daily reports of our progress and events during the ride. These may become more terse as exhaustion and saddle sores kick in. So watch this space.

Day (9)

Comment consent got the worst day wrong. Today we left Hawes in a Storm force gale, and with horizontal rain. The wind helped for a whilst, until our track changes and it became a side wind. I've never cycled at 45 degrees to the horizontal, leaning into to the wind to keep going, before. Then there was the wind chill, wet and very windy is a bad combination on a bike. You cannot enjoy the decents and the climbs are purgatory. No views available due to low cloud. Later sun did come out but if anything the wind got stronger. A survival day but we did and are now a mere 8 miles form the Scottish Border. Praying for kinder weather tomorrow.

  1. I'm praying for better weather for you too! You are now well over half way and almost in Scotland. Just keep those pedals turning, and you will be rewarded with a rest day.
Love to you all. Ann X

  3. Sounds awful - what fighting spirit you all have! I had enough trouble cycling from Woodstock Road to Warwick Street in the wind today!!

Still I guess the fun will start when you change from the lycra into kilts once you hit Scotland...you did say that was obligatory, didn't you?

Hope the testing days are over and the winds are behind you from now on... Wendyx
