Squeaky Wheels the Rationale

Team Squeaky Wheels came together by accident following a drunken conversation about the possibility of riding from Lands End to John O'Groats. The result was the accumulation of a quarter of a millenniums worth of accumulated wit and (arguably) wisdom in the guise of Jeff, Tim, Don and Michael. To give us all an incentive to accomplish this route we decided to make the journey a sponsored ride for McMillan Cancer Support, and run this Blog for our friends and supporters. Hopefully we will provide daily reports of our progress and events during the ride. These may become more terse as exhaustion and saddle sores kick in. So watch this space.

Day (7)

Squeaky wheels leave the converted Outfitters Store at Youlgreave, which has been converted into a youth hostel. Having slept well in a room called "Haberdashery", at least it wasn't the one called "Ladies Knickers" we all set off after Adrian took our photo. En route via Monsal Head I paused for a photo opportunity, which Michael took  advantage of. Someone told us that the first two days were the hardest. They lied. After several 1:4 climbs and equally severe decents this was rated by the team equally hard. First day of problmes, with Tim having a broken chain, and Michael misreading his Gamin.  Last miles into Huddersfiled hard and drear, but all arrived safely. Weather still smiling on us.

  1. I feel very jealous of you cycling through Derbyshire and Yorkshire – makes me want to go back and revisit some of the places from my childhood. You are doing great! After tomorrow's ride, you are over half way. I was going to say it's all downhill from there, but I guess it isn't... Hugs to you all. Ann X

  2. Warmest congratulations on your indomitable toughness, lads. So many slopes and technical hitches mastered. Only another 3000 miles to go, or something.
